The beneficial effect of adenosine on hair has been discovered relatively recently. The presentation of the results in this field took place at the meeting of the International Society for Hair Restoration Surgery in 2003 and sparked considerable interest for this substance, in the field of science. Today, the effectiveness of adenosine on hair is officially confirmed, so it’s worth taking a closer look at its properties.

Adenosine – what is it?

Adenosine is a chemical substance, that belongs to the group of purine nucleosides. It occurs naturally in the human body, as one of the building blocks of DNA. Although it is mainly used to treat specific cardiovascular diseases, adenosine is also widely used in cosmetics. It is a popular ingredient in rejuvenating creams, and it is also perfect to prevent hair loss or alopecia, especially androgenic.

For this reason, adenosine in shampoos or conditioners is recommended for both. Men who begin to lose hair at some point in their lives, and women, who, as a result of various hormonal changes in the body, e.g. during pregnancy or menopause, may suffer from hair thinning. The substance plays a very important role when it comes to hair growth, due to the fact that it is involved in biochemical processes. Although the action of adenosine is mainly associated with strengthening the hair roots and stimulating hair growth, it is also worth knowing that it has an anti-dandruff effect.

Adenosine, by affecting hair growth factors, stimulates our hair growth and effectively prevents hair loss, which is why it is considered the most effective agent against male pattern baldness. Due to this substance, the hair thickness is also noticeable. The substance is recommended for people who struggle with androgenic alopecia or alopecia areata. It is worth paying attention to the properties of adenosine that cause the expansion of blood vessels.

Better blood supply to the head, stimulates the hair cells to grow. Comparing the action of adenosine to that of Minoxidil – a popular drug for alopecia, showed that 0.75% adenosine solution is more effective than 5% of Minoxidil. The undoubted advantage of adenosine for hair is also the fact that it does not cause any side effects, which also differs from popular medications for baldness or hair loss.

The method of using adenosine on hair, depends on what specificity we choose containing this substance in its composition. The easiest way to use adenosine on your hair is to buy an adenosine shampoo or conditioner. There are also hair follicles with adenosine which are recommended.

They will work well in the case of weakened hair, with a tendency of excessive falling out, with the recommended dosage of adenosine in a concentration between 0.75-3%. The substance in the form of oral pills or intravenous injections is a potant medication, that is administered only at a hospital, due to the need for subsequent monitoring of the patient’s heart rhythm. Therefore, you should not use this form of adenosine on your own, to stimulate hair growth.

Adenosine for androgenic alopecia

In case of problems with androgenic alopecia, it is worth using the aforementioned agents with adenosine, but also other solutions using adenosine, dedicated to people who have already experienced complete local hair loss. Well, there are special hair growth patches on the market that contain, in addition to many nutrients, adenosine. Treatment with patches against hair loss are simple – when going to bed, just wash the area of ​​the scalp that is not covered with hair and apply a patch to it.

The modern transdermal formula of the patches for hair growth allows the active ingredients, in the preparation, to penetrate into the deeper layers of the scalp and stimulate hair growth. Remove the patch in the morning and apply another one after 24 hours. A two-month treatment may produce visible effects.

When looking for a shampoo for baldness or a shampoo for hair loss, it is worth reaching for one, that contains adenosine. Remember, that this substance will not only help us in a situation when we are already struggling with the problem of baldness or excessive hair loss, but also will be an effective preventive methld against these ailments.
