Trichology is a field that deals with disorders of the scalp. The name trichology comes from the Greek word trikhos, meaning “hair.” The promoter of trichology, was Enzo Formentini, a professor and lecturer at the University of Bologna.

Is a trichologist a hair doctor?

It is worth noting that the trichologist in Warsaw as well as in other cities, does not deal with other skin conditions occurring on other parts of the body – as, for example, a dermatologist does.

The field of trichology encompasses knowledge from fields such as cosmetology, cosmetics, hairdressing, dermatology, and dietetics. Dr. Piotr Turkowski is a doctor of aesthetic medicine with a specialty in hair restoration surgery, and in cooperation with the dermatologist MD, Ph.D. Katarzyna Osipowicz He treats scalp diseases and also performs hair transplants.

A good trichologist is what kind of trichologist?

A good trichologist is one who has the right training, experience and passion for working with hair and scalp. The best specialists in the field are able to diagnose and treat all sorts of hair, scalp and hair follicle problems, as well as point out the most appropriate hair care methods.

In addition to professional knowledge and skills, a good trichologist should also be communicative, patient and empathetic with his patients. He should listen carefully to their needs and concerns, and help them choose the best treatment and hair care plan.

It is important for the trichologist to constantly expand his knowledge and skills and keep up with the latest trends and developments in the field of trichology. This will enable him to offer patients the best quality services and effective solutions to their hair problems.

What kind of problems does a trichologist deal with?

The task of the trichologist is to make a thorough analysis of the condition of the scalp, hair follicles and determine the causes of hair loss. In addition, the trychologist diagnoses diseases related to the scalp and selects optimal hair care methods.

The trichologist deals with:

  • hair development problems,
  • inflammatory conditions of the scalp,
  • Problems of baldness and excessive hair loss.
  • Excessive hair greasiness,
  • halting hair growth,
  • Mechanical and chemical damage to the hair.

Trichologist in Warsaw

The most important trichological examination is the so-called trichoscopy, which involves an imaging examination – using a microcamera that uses up to 70-fold magnification. During the trichoscopy examination, the trichologist is able to determine the condition of the scalp, the form of hair follicles and blood vessels. Proper diagnosis allows the selection of the appropriate type of treatments and medications to help treat a specific problem.

What does a consultation with a trichologist look like?

A consultation with a trichologist usually begins with an in-office or online conversation. The trichologist will ask questions about your health, lifestyle and hair care style. He will also want to know the history of your hair problems, such as hair loss, baldness, seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff or other problems.

A trichologist can take a close look at your hair and scalp to see if there are any signs of skin disease or infection. They can also perform tests, such as blood tests or hair composition analysis, to investigate the causes of hair problems.

After a thorough examination of your condition, the trichologist can recommend various treatments or hair care options to help improve your hair. He may also prescribe special cosmetics or dietary supplements to help strengthen hair and accelerate its growth.

A consultation with a trichologist is usually very detailed and helps diagnose and treat various hair problems. This is a good way to solve hair problems and improve its appearance and condition.

Dermatologist or trichologist for hair problems?

It depends on the type of hair problem. If the problem is related to the scalp, such as seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff or difficulty maintaining a healthy scalp, then a dermatologist may be more appropriate. Dermatologists are specialists in skin diseases, including diseases of the scalp, which can affect the condition of hair.

On the other hand, if the problem is directly related to hair, such as hair loss, brittleness, excessively slow growth, or other problems, then a trichologist may be a better choice. Trichologists are specialists in the field of hair and scalp and deal with the diagnosis and treatment of problems directly related to hair. Trichoscopy – computerized hair examination

Trichoscopy is a digital hair examination method. It is performed using a dermatoscope with computer software and a digital camera – called a videodermatoscope.

Trichoscopy

Trichoscopy, as a method of examining hair, was proposed by the internationally renowned head of the Department of Dermatology and Venereology – Professor. L. Rudnicka.

Trichoscopic examination in Warsaw

One of the most important advances brought by trichoscopy is the ability to evaluate the structure of the hair shaft non-invasively. This means that it is not necessary to take (pull out) hair for the test.

The trichoscopic analysis method makes it possible to observe and evaluate the structure of hair at the level of the epidermis, the dermal-epidermal border and the upper layers of the dermis and hair.

Trichoscopy evaluates the vessels of the hair shaft and the structures of the scalp – in particular, the mouths of the follicles, which form the upper part of the hair canal, the skin surrounding the follicle and the vessels of the microcirculation. Hair count and thickness are also evaluated.

It is recommended that a few days before the test, hair should not be dyed or permed. A day before the test, the hair should be washed. Also, do not use hair care products, such as mousses, conditioners, gels or hairsprays.

Trichoscopic examination is also very useful in differentiating between scarring and non-scarring alopecia.

    • Hello.
For women, we recommend to perform a full diagnostic of thyroid, hormones, iron, ferritin etc. Very often for women, hair loss is the result of certain deviations or deficiencies in body organism. High stress is also very important in this case. Prolonged stress period causes intensified hair loss. I recommend performing a full hormonal diagnosis to find the cause of your hair loss.
